Ocean buoys are automatic observation stations for marine hydrology and meteorology, mainly composed of observation buoys anchored at sea. It can collect necessary marine hydrological and meteorological data for marine scientific research, offshore oil (gas) development, port construction, and national defense construction in a long-term and continuous manner as required by regulations, especially for collecting data on severe weather and sea conditions that are difficult to collect by survey ships. In ocean buoys, sensors are an important component and a fundamental part for measuring various ocean data. Among them, electronic compasses play an important role in buoy azimuth measurement.
Due to the complex and ever-changing meteorological environment of the ocean, the orientation of the buoy can change at any time due to the influence of waves and strong winds. This is quite unfavorable for measuring directional ocean hydrological data, and changes in the attitude of the buoy itself may also affect the correct measurement of the size of these data, such as ocean currents and wind direction. Therefore, an electronic compass is needed to monitor and measure the real-time orientation of the buoy. By comparing these directional data measurement sensors with the installation position of the buoy, the actual geographical direction can be obtained through correction to ensure the accuracy of the measurement.
