In terms of the structure of a car, the installation between the steering wheel (front wheel), steering knuckle, and front axle has a certain relative position. This installation with a certain relative position is called steering wheel alignment, also known as front wheel alignment. Front wheel alignment includes four aspects: caster (angle), camber (angle), camber (angle), and toe in. There is also a relative position between the two rear wheels and the rear axle, which is called rear wheel alignment. Rear wheel alignment includes wheel camber (angle) and individual rear wheel toe in. This front wheel alignment and rear wheel alignment are collectively referred to as four-wheel alignment.
The positioning angle of the vehicle is pre-set according to the design requirements when it leaves the factory. These positioning angles are collectively used to ensure the comfort and safety of vehicle driving. However, after the vehicle is sold and driven for a period of time, these positioning angles may change due to severe bumps caused by traffic accidents, uneven roads (especially when suddenly encountering uneven surfaces at high speeds), wear and tear of chassis parts, replacement of chassis parts, tire replacement, and other reasons. Once the positioning angle changes for any reason, it may cause discomfort symptoms such as abnormal tire wear, vehicle deviation, decreased safety, increased fuel consumption, accelerated part wear, steering wheel heaviness, and vehicle drifting. Some symptoms make vehicles very dangerous when driving at high speeds.
Four wheel alignment device
The purpose of four-wheel alignment maintenance service is to diagnose and treat the above-mentioned discomfort causes of the vehicle through positioning angle measurement. Generally, new cars should have four-wheel alignment done after 3 months of driving, and after every 10000 kilometers of driving, tires or shock absorbers should be replaced, and four-wheel alignment should be done in a timely manner after a collision. The correct positioning of the wheels can ensure flexible steering, comfortable riding, maintain straight-line driving, extend tire life, and reduce vibrations caused by the road surface.
Most of the instruments currently used for wheel alignment testing are "four-wheel alignment devices". During testing, the four-wheel alignment device first measures the current four-wheel alignment parameters of the car, and then the computer automatically compares them with the stored values of the corresponding vehicle model to calculate the deviation value of the car's four-wheel alignment. The maintenance personnel can correct it according to the prompts of the alignment device to restore the original state.
Tilt angle sensor in four-wheel alignment instrument
For different four-wheel alignment devices, the key factor is whether the measurement sensor is accurate. Modern cars generally adopt independent front and rear suspension, and the main parameters detected by the four-wheel alignment instrument are wheel camber angle, caster angle, caster angle, and toe in. The four-wheel alignment measurement system generally uses inclination sensors for measuring the above types of angles, except for the toe angle which is usually achieved through a turntable or angle sensor. The inclination sensor is fixed on the bottom plate of the four-wheel alignment instrument and then installed on the wheels of the car through a fixture.
Due to the structure of automobiles, the measurement of inclination angle in the wheel alignment angle of automobiles can be divided into two types: direct measurement and indirect measurement. From the definition of wheel tilt angle, it can be seen that the measurement of wheel camber angle can be directly obtained using a tilt angle sensor, while the camber angle and caster angle of the main pin cannot be directly measured by a tilt angle sensor because the main pin is installed on the inner side of the wheel. The measurement range of wheel inclination should be around ± 15 °. The adjustment deviation value of the tilt angle of the car models currently in use is generally around 5 '. For example, the front wheel camber angle value of the Shanghai Volkswagen PASSAT B5 is -0 ° 35' to ± 0 ° 25 '. Therefore, the measurement resolution of the sensor should be less than or equal to 5'.
Tilt angle sensor for four-wheel alignment
The LIS1600 series is the latest PCB board launched by Wuxi Huilian Information Technology Co., Ltd. for measuring the inclination angle of automotive four-wheel alignment instruments. It has no outer shell packaging and is easy to embed into user systems.
Main features:
Dual axis tilt angle measurement (X-axis and Y-axis)
