Tilt angle sensors, also known as inclinometers, levels, etc., are mainly used for measuring and adjusting the angle of carriers. MEMS tilt angle sensors have the advantages of small size, light weight, low power consumption, and multifunctionality, and have been widely used in industries such as new energy, geological disasters, civil engineering, engineering machinery, aerospace, etc.

Tilt angle sensors have a simple structure and are easy to use, so they are constantly emerging on the market with a variety of features. However, there are two issues that cannot be avoided during the use of tilt sensors: one is the influence of motion (vibration), and the other is the influence of temperature. This article focuses on discussing the influence of temperature.

Among the mainstream inclination sensors on the market today, the nominal medium accuracy (accuracy of 0.01 °) has a temperature impact of approximately 0.003 °/℃ to 0.005 °/℃; The nominal high precision (accuracy 0.005 ° -0.001 °) has a temperature impact of approximately 0.0007 °/℃ -0.001 °/℃. From the above data, it can be seen that the accuracy of a medium precision tilt sensor is submerged when the temperature changes by 3 ℃, while the accuracy of a high-precision tilt sensor is submerged when the temperature changes by 2 ℃. In the process of using a tilt sensor, a temperature change of 10 ℃ in a day is normal, so simply discussing accuracy is no longer appropriate.

Due to changes in the working environment temperature, measurement accuracy may vary, especially under high-precision measurement requirements, which may result in loss of measurement effectiveness. Therefore, corresponding measures must be taken to eliminate or reduce errors caused by temperature changes, that is, temperature compensation must be performed on the sensor.

Wuxi Huilian Information Technology Co., Ltd

In response to the above phenomenon, Huilian Technology proposes three temperature compensation methods for tilt sensors, namely physical compensation, hardware compensation, and software compensation. Physical compensation mainly reduces the contact surface between the tilt sensor and the outside world, but this method will increase the volume of the product and lose its characteristics of small size, light weight, and easy portability. Hardware compensation mainly involves optimizing circuits to achieve compensation effects, but this method can lead to circuit complexity and greatly increase costs. Software compensation mainly includes online compensation method, BP neural network method, regression method, etc. Considering the convenience of calculation and the accuracy of compensation, Huilian Technology adopts online compensation method to perform temperature compensation on the tilt sensor.

The online compensation method is very simple to use, which requires collecting angle and temperature readings of the tilt sensor within a certain period of time, pouring them into the online temperature compensation software developed by Huilian Technology. The software can automatically fit and write to the CPU to compensate and correct the impact of temperature on tilt measurement, greatly improving the accuracy of measurement in temperature changes and enhancing the adaptability of tilt sensors in complex temperatures.

Conclusion: In the use of tilt sensors, especially in high-precision measurement requirements, temperature compensation is necessary.
