The Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology (hereinafter referred to as the "Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology") officially released the "Implementation Plan for Promoting the Development of Beidou Navigation and Location Services Industry in Beijing (2012-2015)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Implementation Plan") on the 20th, proposing that Beijing will plan to establish a national Beidou industrial park to drive the development of the Beidou industry nationwide.
At present, Beijing has organized 10 pilot demonstrations of Beidou navigation and location industry projects, covering various fields such as transportation, emergency rescue, and geological disaster monitoring. The city has applied 20000 Beidou terminals with a total investment of about 870 million yuan. "The navigation and location service industry is one of the fastest growing emerging information technology industries after the Internet and mobile communications. Promoting the application of Beidou navigation technology will bring significant opportunities for Beijing to develop strategic emerging industries and build a 'smart Beijing'." Jiang Guiping, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, said.
According to the Implementation Plan, in the next three years, Beijing will strengthen the research and development of independent innovative technologies related to the BeiDou Navigation System, improve the industrial chain, and promote industrial clusters; Promote the application of Beidou location services in transportation, logistics, agriculture, tourism, disaster relief, environmental resource management and other fields; Strive to achieve a revenue of over 50 billion yuan in the navigation and location services industry by 2015, and carry out over 100 typical application demonstrations in the industry.
Jiang Guiping said that as the strategic and technological source of China's Beidou satellite technology, the satellite navigation and location service industry chain in Beijing is relatively complete and has begun to take shape. There are about 900 enterprises involved in the space information industry in the city, accounting for 30% of the number of similar enterprises in the country.
Navigation and location services are services that provide individuals or organizations with real-time access to target location information, with enormous commercial potential. At present, China's independently developed Beidou Navigation Satellite System, along with GPS from the United States, GLONASS from Russia, and Galileo from Europe, constitute the "top four" in the international satellite navigation landscape. The total number of BeiDou navigation satellites in orbit has reached 16 and will be officially put into commercial operation by the end of the year.
